28 November 2004Moss Point ThanksgivingJen and Christopher played host to the primary Johnson/May family Thanksgiving event this year at their home in Moss Point, Mississippi. Though having lived in their new domicile only since May of this year, this is the second major family event they have hosted the first being a smaller gathering in conjunction with the conferment of Jen's doctoral degree in mid-May. Largely settled in since that first event of six months ago, Jen and Christopher spared no effort in their preparation and accommodation. Menus and meals were scheduled from Thursday evening through Saturday with event participant stays ranging from Wednesday through Sunday. The main meat course was a first experience for many fried turkey. Those attending included Sandy; Kimberly and Jason; Andrea and Michael; Joanne and Michael; as well as Elizabeth, Rebecca, Collin, Herman, Catalina and Oberon. The latter party also served as chauffeurs for Sandy both coming and going. All save Joanne and Michael chose to stay with Jen and Christopher. The May and Wienen families pitched tents in the backyard, while Sandy, Kimberly and Jason opted for sheltered accommodations inside the house. The fare was varied and wide ranging; all of it quite delicious. Christopher, Herman and Rebecca comprised the fry party. Only Sandy mentioned ever having experienced a fried bird in the past. The procedure itself was quite expeditious, with a fifteen pound gobbler being ready to eat in just under an hour's cook time. With the exception of a few of the desserts, all meal items were homemade. Christopher sponsored two trips to the NERR for tours of the management and education facilities as well as forays to the primary boat launch providing access to the majority of the reserve. For a more intimate perspective of the trip and a chronology of Thanksgiving gatherings during the past decade, visit a coincidental posting to the May Family's web site. Images from the gathering are available through the #kempiGallery. 22 November 2004May/Owen site updateFollowing a hiatus of nearly twenty-two months, Jen and Christopher have once again begun to update the information available through their web site. This round of changes brings the addition of content profiling their new home in Moss Point and a revision of Christopher's personal page. We hope this is the first of many updates to come and that it marks the beginning of more regular publishing. :-) 18 November 2004Meritorious service to TAMUAndrea has announced that she has been honored with a President's Meritorious Service Award at Texas A&M University. This accolade is being bestowed upon her in recognition by contractors, her co-workers and the departments with which she has worked over the years for her proficiency as a planner and project manager with the Physical Plant. Presentation of the award will take place 06 December at the President's Holiday Coffee. We congratulate Andrea on a job well done. She is more than worthy of these laurels and we wish her continued success in her career. 15 November 2004Affiliate site hiatusDuring routine link checks last week, it was discovered that Jen's USM web site has been taken offline. Inquiries into this event, while not revealing a reason, have resulted in an assurance that the phenomenon is a temporary hiatus. Jen has responded that she is working on a replacement site that should be up by the mid-December time frame. The link to her site has been deactivated pending he return of an active site. 14 November 2004The BEST pilgimsJoanne, Andrea and Michael were in the Dallas area this weekend. The occasion was primarily the 2004 Western US BEST Championships; hosted by the engineering department at SMU. Being the co-chairs of Texas BEST, Andrea and Michael were somewhat obligated to attend. Joanne was along for the ride and to visit with family. Joanne entertained her borthers, Mike and Steve, for the majority of Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, the May Family spent the latter half of the afternoon on the SMU campus. Following a demonstration of the ASIMO robot, they took in the semi-final rounds of the BEST competition in the company of Andrea and Michael. Later in the evening they rendez-voused at the home of the Johnson matriarch and subsequently enjoyed an evening meal at Bennigan's. 12 November 2004Critter spotlightA new feature has been added to the Grand Bay NERR web site. "Critters on the Reserve" has been created to spotlight the diversity of flora and fauna within the boudaries of the park. The inaugural offering highlights Junonia coenia (aka Precis coenia); common name(s) "Common Buckeye Butterfly" or "Peacock Butterfly". Christopher will be serving as the chief photographer for this feature. Be sure to check back each month to learn about a new species! 06 November 2004TKG Alumni Resource Page redesignedOne of our subordinate projects, the TKG Alumni Resource Page, has undergone a redesign. In addition to a conversion to our site paradigm of XHTML/CSS/PHP coding, several new features have been implemented. The latter include a brief history of the school, a compilation of alumni web sites and expansion of the resource coverage. A 'bLog style news listing has been added to the bottom of the root page as well. All update news relevant to the project will now appear on that page, rather than this. Comments, questions or suggestions for new features are always welcome. 02 November 2004November Turtle ScutesThe current issue of Turtle Scutes has been distributed. check your mailbox for your issue. continue to the October 2004 archive ⇒ |
