30 November 2005Betwixt Holiday BESTRepeating last year's trek, our Texas BEST contingent is returning to North Texas for the 2005 Western US BEST Championships this weekend. Their number has increased by one as Joanne has joined Andrea and Michael as an official member of the organization. In keeping with her real job as symposium director for the TAMU Turbo Lab, she is responsible for organizing and coordinating Texas BEST events in the Central Texas region. Nevertheless, Joanne and Andrea are largely along for the ride and to visit area family. An open invitation has been tendered for any family interested in gathering for a pizza party at Marion's home Saturday evening. 28 November 2005Giving Thanks in 2005Various branches of the extended family have checked-in over the past week or so to share their Thanksgiving activities and gatherings for the November holiday. We share them here for the benfit of our visitors. The Adame Family participated in two gatherings. Fred and Carmen journeyed to Pennsylvania to spend the holiday with the Burlington branch of the family. Arriving on Tuesday, they stayed through the end of the week and celebrated the holiday with Katherine, James and three of their eight grandchildren. Meanwhile, the balance of the Adame Clan (as well as members of the Johnson, May and Trott families) shared Thanksgiving through two events. On Wednesday, most of the family gathered at Studio Movie Grill to view a showing of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". Kristie and Mark were unable to join the bulk of the family at the movie house, but were host to the official family gathering on Thursday. Unfortunately, another obligation prevented John and his family from the get-together on Thanksgiving Day. More information and a detailed summary can be found at the website of the Garland branch of the May Family. A trio of members from the Johnson Clan enjoyed a quiet meal together at Steve's home. It has become the custom for Marion to spend the day with one or both of her sons on this holiday and a special turn of events allowed Sandy to participate as well. Marion and Sandy also spent a portion of the holiday a few miles to the west at the Adame Clan. (Again, visit the above link for the specifics.) Though much of the preparation took place on Thanksgiving Day, the Burnett/Weichert/Wienen branch of the Johnson Clan celebrated a belated family gathering on yesterday at the Weichert homestead. Cornish hens were substituted for the traditional gobbler; reports suggest a quite and enjoyable feast. This is but a small sampling of events taking place among the various families constituting this site. Other family members are encouraged to visit the community and share the specifics of your holiday. 17 November 2005Adams Patriarch Turns 90The eldest member of the Adams Family has reached the impressive milestone of ninety years of life today. In celebration of this event, his nieces and nephews organized a surprise party for Pat Adams at the Belle-Jim Hotel in Jasper, Texas, Saturday last. A small contingent of members from the Adame Clan (the Adams Family is a primary maternal line of ascent) journeyed to participate in the gathering. Among those who attended were Margaret, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Mark. The first three traveled together from a rendez-vous in Tyler, while Mark took a slight detour on a return trip from taking Kristie and Aidan to Baton Rouge. A commemorative album has been made available through the photo node. 11 November 2005Our VeteransWe mark this Veteran's Day by recognizing our veterans, past and present.
