29 March 2006mayFamily-LThe third and presently final iteration of the family mailing lists debuts today with formal invitations to join mayFamily-L being distributed. Members of the extended May Family are encouraged to subscribe to this resource by accepting the invitations. While every effort was made to distribute invitations to all members of the family, there are inevitable omissions. If you would like to join, but did not receive an invitation, please send a request to the list admin. 27 March 2006A Trio Invades MySpaceA great deal of hooplah has been directed at the social networking site MySpace.com in the past few months. The scope has ranged from high praise for its potential to stimulate cyberCommunities to worry that it will empower cyberBullying and predatory behavior ([1], [2], [3]. Nevertheless, three of our most active netizens have established primary or supplemental homesteads within MySpace. Rebecca led the way becoming a member almost one year to the day (05 February) after establishing her toehold on the 'net at Xanga. Mark established an account earlier this month (01 March), because, as he puts it, "all of my students were bugging me about joining". A contributing factor may be that he has recently terminated his ISP account and no longer has a managed, personal presence on the web. Stimulated largely from learning that Rebecca and Mark have sites, Herman followed suit and created a presence at MySpace yesterday evening. Any other members of the extended family who may have or been contemplating the creation of a MySpace account are encouraged to visit the above links and network with our pioneering trio. 22 March 2006More Pending ScholarshipJen has reported the acceptance of another manuscript for publication. Due for release later this summer in Ecohealth, the citation is currently as follows: Owen, J.C., F.R. Moore, N. Panella, E. Edwards, R. Bru, M. Hughes, N. Komar. Migrating birds as dispersal vehicles of West Nile virus. In press: Ecohealth, 2006. As always, the complete catalogue of denizen scholarship and publicity can be viewed on our Denizen Recognition page. 21 March 2006Family Lists DebutA few weeks later than expected, two new mailing lists debut today with at least one other following by the end of the week. Initially announced last month, the Adame and Johnson Family discussion lists have become active and are accepting subscribers. Members of both of these branches of the #kempiWeb network should have received invitations. If, however, you have not for whatever reason, please feel free to send a note to Herman and he will provide the URL needed for self-service administration of your account. Given its greater scope in terms of potential subscribers, the May Family discussion list will follow in a few days. Nevertheless, the resource exists now and interested parties can contact the admin (link above) for subscription informatiion. 05 March 2006Turtle Scutes v03 #03The third 2006 installment of the monthly, summary news publication has been posted within the community.
