Lillie Weichert, 1914-2006

News has reached us of the death of Michael's mother, Lillie Weichert. A two year cancer survivor, it was discovered three weeks ago that she had experienced a recurrence. The neoplasm metastasised to the lymph nodes surrounding her esophagus, causing labored swallowing. She was rushed to the hospital Sunday after experiencing difficulty and died on Tuesday.

The following obituary appears in today's Bryan–College Station Eagle.

CFBISD Podcast

Our first podcaster has made a debut. Mark published the first in a series of biology themed A/V lectures on the subject of the "Anatomy of Photosynthesis".

In late July, Mark shared news that the Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD was providing iPods to teachers as part of an incentive to foster the use of technology for enhancing education. Even though he already owns a couple of these Apple devices, he partook of the offer. One stipulation of the prograam is that the teachers produce the occasional audio or visual podcast for use by faculty and students.

UPDATE:
Feedback regarding the robotic cantor of the first iteration has prompted a revision. If you downloaded the first version, consider revisiting the resource for a much more lively treatment. <link updated>

NWN, 28(6):10-12,20, 2006

Christopher will be cited as co-author on an upcoming article slated for publication in the final issue of the 2006 volume of National Wetlands Newsletter. Continuing on the theme of aquatic vegitation analysis and restoration, "An initial restoration tool for submersed aquatic vegetation," takes a look at techniques to predict growth potential for Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV).

The complete reference follows and can always be found on the Denizen Recognition page.

Cho, H.J. and C.A. May. An initial restoration tool for submersed aquatic vegetation. National Wetlands Newsletter, 28(6):10-12,20, 2006.
In his own modest words he writes, "[t]his is not peer-reviewed, but is a newsletter with a national subscription." Be that as it may, the scholarship of both of our resident professsional field biologists continues to bring notice to their accomplishments.

Accolades

Two members of the family have recently been rewarded for their public service by receiving advancements. Christopher was recently promoted to Lieutenant in the Forts Lake/Franklin Creek Volunteer Fire Department (part of the Jackson County Fire District. In mid-October, Herman was appointed net manager of the DFW Early Traffic Net.

Our congratulations to both of them!

October Birthday Bash

The annual Adame Family Birthday Bash took place today at the home of Mark and Kristie. Members of several Adame and May households resulted in one of the most popular events to date.

In addition to Kristie, Mark and Aidan, Margaret and Theodore rounded out the Adame contingent. Members from the May Clan included Elizabeth, Rebecca and Herman; Sandra and Marianna; Christopher; as well as Jason and Joleta. Fare consisted of hamburgers with all of the trimmings, baked beans and chips. A Halloween themed cake from the Village Bakery rounded out the meal.
